POP! The gunshot went off, and every kid surged forward in unison, all 500 runners churning their legs forward at top speed with the same goal: cross that line first.
The men’s cross country team battled through a challenging season in the competitive MIAA A Conference. Led by head coach Brian Houdek, the Cavaliers faced some of the strongest programs in the state while steadily improving throughout the fall. At the Maryland XC Invitational, the team earned an outstanding 4th-place finish, a testament to their perseverance and growing potential. The mix of veteran leadership and promising underclassmen gave the team a solid foundation for future success, both in individual and overall team performance.
An absolute peak moment in the season is when the Cavaliers hit the road and travel up to Lehigh University for the Paul Short Lehigh Run. In an absolutely smashing fashion, all 12 varsity runners from Spalding achieved best times, outperforming the field and securing 3rd place.
All in all, this cross-country season has been electric, one you wouldn’t want to miss. This team has something for everyone, from running best times to tossing around a football DURING a race. The Archbishop Spalding Cross Country Team did not disappoint.
