Many people know Mrs. Knight; they’ve seen her in the hallways, where she always says hello between passing periods. She can be seen in the religion office, always ready to chat and help students with whatever they need. She has worked diligently over her 13 years at Spalding to build a reputation as a one-of-a-kind teacher who is always there for the students. Mrs. Knight was inspired to become a teacher through meaningful influences in her life. She had many teachers, most notably her elementary school teachers, who shaped her life in a new direction and connected with her on a deeper level. Her mother was also a teacher, and she helped inspire her to become a teacher. Mrs. Knight, although she had an unconventional path to becoming a teacher, said that “God worked in her life” to bring her into her true calling at Spalding.
Mrs. Knight was originally an English teacher at Spalding. She worked in the learning resource center before transitioning into a long-term religion sub. She fell in love with teaching religion and really enjoys creating a safe space for students to explore their faith freely. Most recently, she describes her teaching style as fostering an engaging environment, emphasizing student participation, and “meets students where they are in their faith journey.” She loves it when students can think freely and ask questions about where and how they can see God at work in their lives. She allows her students the space to actively choose to enter into a loving relationship with God, rather than making religious teachings feel forced. She achieves this very well and has since had a lasting impact on many students’ lives. But her favorite classroom moments are when she can tell a student really “gets it.” It’s when she can see the wheels turning in a student’s mind, and when that final piece clicks into place. The best moments are when students catch up to their thoughts and truly understand how God is working all around. Mrs. Knight is a wonderful teacher at Spalding and is also very devoted to other aspects of her life! She enjoys spending time with her family and is also an avid runner outside of teaching. Mrs. Knight has made an indelible mark at Spalding, and we can’t wait to see how she continues to change lives in our community.
