The Archbishop Spalding girls’ lacrosse team has built a foundation based on energy, discipline, and belief. With a combination of experienced upperclassmen and numerous rising freshmen, the Cavaliers have shown steady growth and hard work from preseason winter workouts, practices, and hard matchups.
The coaches, Tara Shea, Logan Edmondson, Sarah Trawick, Donny Restly, and Lily Grant, emphasize the importance of teamwork and communication, encouraging us to trust each other on and off the field. Specifically, Coach Tara says for the girls to “Be the light” on the field– emphasizing how important it is for each team member to support each other and be each other’s biggest cheerleaders.
Senior captains– Ella Davis, Hadley Zurvalec, Ella Jane Ostrowski, Ellie Roberts, and Junior captain, Sam Collins, lead the team to make sure everyone has their head on their shoulders. Ella Davis recently wrote, “The Spalding Girls Lacrosse team is special because we are all best friends, and it is a great community to be a part of.” Ella Jane Ostrowski stated, “We are all sisters, and no matter what, we always have each other’s backs.” Whether it is on defensive slides, matching bows in our hair, and clean passes on offense, the Spalding team truly connects with each other through a natural chemistry unmatched inside the IAAM. Junior Sam Collins wrote, “Our team’s success is because of the traditions that are upheld and the way we can rely on each other,” and Senior Hadley Zuralec wrote, “We push each other every day in practice to get better. Our team is different because we all want to see each other succeed; we don’t just rely on one person.” Ellie Roberts, Senior attacker, says, “We work well as a team and push each other to be better. We show up for each other, whether that’s scoring goals, playing good defense, or cheering loudly. We love being on the team, and that’s what makes every day so special.” It’s impossible to express how it truly feels to be on the team; these captains perfectly described what the Archbishop Spalding girls’ lacrosse team embodies.
The team continues to focus on its goals, including competing for a conference title and making a deep playoff run. Beyond wins and losses, the 2026 squad is committed to representing Archbishop Spalding with pride. Their dedication to academics, sportsmanship, and community reflects the school’s core values, being “One in Christ.”
