Spalding’sgirls ice hockey team, less formally known as “the Lady Ice Cavs,” had a great season this year, taking on some of the division’s toughest competitors. Both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams began practicing in early November, gearing up for upcoming games. The season started off with a shutout at Piney, our home rink, against St. John’s, where the girls’ Varsity won 16-0.
Don’t be fooled, the girls can do more than just skate fast and shoot pucks! The program put together multiple community service projects throughout the coldest months. Varsity senior Anastasia Lambropoulos collected almost 100 cans of food and non-perishables for local veterans through The Baltimore Station, a local organization that supports veterans struggling with poverty. She helped kick off a program-wide drive that collected toiletries and clothing for The Baltimore Station

Junior Varsity girls continued the winning streak with an 8-5 win against Glenelg at their home opener on December 1st. Both teams continued to climb the divisional ranks leading up to the New Year. On January 3rd, they played against St. Mary’s Ryken at the Capital One Arena following an intense Caps game!

Both Varsity and Junior Varsity’s senior nights were a success. On February 2nd, JV won their exciting game 8-4 with goals for each senior! Congrats to Liza Beardmore, Isa Magana, and Lucy Stever. Varsity won their playoff game 8-4 as well, advancing to the championships. While the championships did not result in the desired outcome, the Varsity girls ended the season with an incredible team effort against St. Mary’s Ryken. Both teams had so much support throughout the entire season, working to become ONE on and off the ice.
