From October 29th to November 12th, members of the Spalding community collaborated to collect as many blankets as possible. This is the 25th year Spalding has partnered with Happy Helpers for the Homeless to provide for those they support. Additional blankets will be sent to HOPE for All and Rippling Woods Elementary School.
Members of the SGA, Key Club, and class councils ran the drive. On November 12th, they worked together to count all the blankets received from each homeroom. Every homeroom participated, each bringing in at least two blankets, which truly shows the commitment we, as a Spalding community, have to helping others.
In total, Spalding collected 1,041 blankets! The class that participated the most was the Senior Class, with 330 blankets, followed by Freshmen with 279, Sophomores with 173, and finally the Juniors with 116. Ms. Malcolm’s senior homeroom contributed an impressive 138 blankets and won a class breakfast! Ultimately, the goal was never to win the breakfast; it was to serve our community in any way we could.
Ms. Trumpler, Associate Director of Campus Ministry, expressed her gratitude for the drive: “We are thankful for the support of our community in the Blanket Drive. Your donation represents more than just a blanket; it symbolizes human connection and warmth, providing dignity and comfort to those who are struggling, especially during the winter months.”
As the temperature continues to drop and the leaves continue to fall, it is essential to contribute to organizations that support those in need. One blanket can keep one more person warm, five blankets can keep a whole family warm, and 1,041 blankets can keep an entire community warm, and that’s what we accomplished together at Spalding.
