On the evening of November 21st, Spalding was proud to welcome many new junior and senior members to its National Honor Society, National Foreign Language Honor Society, and National English Honor Society. The new inductees have worked hard throughout their high school careers to be eligible for induction into various societies.
The Spalding chapter of the National Honor Society is a group of students centered around the ideals of character, scholarship, service, and leadership. These individuals give back to our Spalding community immensely through events such as Open House and Exam Tutoring! Inductees received a candle after they were inducted, symbolizing the light they are to others.
Our chapter of the National English Honor Society is new to Spalding this year! On induction night, the inaugural class recited an oath and received certificates and white carnations. Additionally, it was announced that the Spalding chapter of NEHS would be called the “Sullivan English Scholars,” a tribute to the long-time Spalding legend and English teacher, Ms. Sullivan. New members are already hard at work living out the society’s motto “Gelast Sceal Mid Are” (duty goes with honor) by volunteering at a weekly writing center in the Library Learning Commons.
Lastly, students in French, Latin, and Spanish were inducted into the National Foreign Language Honor Society. These students are accomplished in their language knowledge and skills. They seek to give back to our community by hosting events related to National French Week and Hispanic Heritage Month and through the Latin program’s presence at the Spirit Fair every October.
We congratulate all honor society inductees and encourage underclassmen to look up to them as role models of who they can become during their time at Spalding. We also thank all the honor society moderators and student leaders who help their chapters thrive at Spalding!
