As the back-to-school season started, it was a new beginning for the Spalding Class of 2027. Over 300 new students had their first day at Spalding on August 25th, 2023.
The morning began early at 7:30 AM with a registration where each freshman received their name tag and class schedule. Students were then escorted to their community homeroom seats in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) for Mass with Father Luke. Finishing with Spalding’s traditional closing song, the Alma Mater, the students stood arm-in-arm for the first of many times.
Although our principal, Mr. John McCaul, was unable to attend this year’s Freshman Orientation, he gave best wishes for the freshman class’s first day of high school. Next, our president, Mr. Brian Kohler, welcomed all the freshmen and introduced Spalding’s faculty and staff. We were greeted by several faculty members including our counselor, Mr. Atas, and our class moderators, Ms. Kat Nepp and Ms. Molly LeQuang.
Afterward, we learned about student and academic expectations from Mr. Weber and Ms. Adams, our Assistant Principals of Student Affairs. After practicing our homeroom fire drill lines, we received a map and handbook and were excited to visit all of our classes. Lunch included meeting our counselors and receiving Class of 2027 shirts to wear on Freshman Retreat.
Following the eighth period, freshmen students returned to the PAC for dismissal. After wrapping up a memorable first day at Archbishop Spalding, the Class of 2027 looked forward to meeting again for Freshman Retreat the next day.
