Every high schooler’s experience can be challenging and stressful. Especially this time of year, playoffs, AP exams, and the end of the 4th quarter. It’s important to remember to take a moment for yourself, breathe, and unwind.
On May 1st, Spalding began Mental Health Awareness Month with a beloved tradition: The Kona Ice Truck. Parked outside the Cafe foyer, the truck handed out free shaved ice to students, faculty, and staff. This was a sweet and simple way to cool down and take a break.
In addition to the treats, you also had the opportunity to grab various Mental Health inspired stickers, journals, bracelets, and so much more to have a permanent reminder that YOU and your mental health should always come first. Boxes of chalk were provided so that students could draw bright and colorful pictures across the sidewalk. Students could go during lunch, and some teachers took their entire class out to get the shaved ice!
This event and many others at Spalding reflect our ongoing commitment to supporting mental health and creating space to pause in a hectic season. Sometimes, a break, and maybe even some Kona Ice, can help someone in need.
And remember, if you or someone you know is struggling, help is always available. You can call 988, the Mental Health Crisis Line.
