Archbishop Spalding High School has added an exciting new team to its roster of athletic programs: the Dive Team! With the support of student-athletes and coaches, the team officially kicked off and competed in the National Catholic Swim and Dive Meet, bringing a new sport to the school.
The idea for a diving team originated from a group of students, many of whom were already swimmers, who saw an opportunity to contribute more points during swim meets. Piper Andros (‘26), Bryan McKernan (‘26), and Finn McInerny (‘28) stepped up as the school’s first-ever divers, paving the way for this new sport.
Aiden McInerny, a former Spalding Cavalier, helped over Winter Break by training and teaching them the fundamentals of diving. Despite a few early flops and plenty of practice, the three swimmers were ready to take on their first dive meet.
Piper Andros set a school record scoring 82.5 points for 1-meter diving. Meanwhile, Bryan and Finn also competed, becoming the school’s first male divers. Their efforts not only marked a historic achievement for Spalding but also laid the foundation for the growth of the dive team in the years to come.
