As campaign season came to an end, Spalding decided to partake in a Mock election. This event was hosted by Spalding students and took place right outside the cafe. Throughout the day, students stopped periodically at the table, worked by students, to cast their votes! The motive for this event was for students to participate in an election simulation and get a sense of how a Democracy works. Students would walk up to the table, get checked in, then vote on a Google Form for their selected delegates and receive an “I voted” sticker. It was critically important that all voices were heard.
Additionally, this process taught an important lesson on how every vote mattered. As the day passed and results concluded, most votes were cast for Donald Trump for US President and Larry Hogan for US Senate. Students based their opinion on how each candidate ran their campaign.
