From October 7th to October 11th, Spalding students went all out to showcase their school spirit during Spirit Week, with each day featuring a different theme. This week was filled with energy, creativity, and passion as students celebrated in style.
Monday kicked off with Adam Sandler/Y2K Day. Students embraced their inner Adam Sandler with oversized clothing or wore bright, Y2K-inspired tracksuits and accessories. With either decision came a $5 out-of-uniform fee.
Tuesday was Mismatch Day, where many students took this as an opportunity to go against societal norms and wear whatever they felt, even if that meant pairing mismatched patterns like stripes with plaid or any other quirky combination that brought the usual rules of style.
Wednesday brought the always-anticipated Character Day with an added element this year: celebrity look-alikes. Students could dress up as their favorite character or celebrity. From Star Wars heroes to Winnie the Pooh, with appearances by Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, and many more. This fan-favorite day never fails to bring out the best costumes.
On Thursday, it was time for Class Color Day. Freshmen dressed in blue, sophomores in purple, juniors in green, and seniors in yellow and black. The day culminated with the thrilling Powder Puff games. As expected, the seniors dominated the freshmen, while the juniors triumphed over the sophomores. In the showdown between the juniors and seniors, the seniors secured their victory, ending the day with class pride at an all-time high.
The excitement carried into Friday, Spalding Spirit Day. Decked out in red, black, and white, students gathered in the New Gym for a pep rally. The cheerleading and dance teams gave their all in performances, followed by the senior boys showcasing their movies in a fun dance taught by the dance team. The rally continued with dodgeball, tug-of-war, and a faculty vs. Senior boys basketball game, where the students proved they could beat the teachers. The day ended at Whittles Field, with friends taking pictures, enjoying activities from club tables, playing with puppies, and listening to live music performed by our band and chorus students. That night, the student section turned out full force, dressed in all black to cheer on the football team. The team continues their winning streak this season, beating Concordia Prep 47-0!
Finally, the day our week of spirit was for: Homecoming! Students arrived from 7-8, showing up in their best-dressed outfits. The cafeteria offered snacks, drinks, and a photo booth, providing a spot to hang out with your friends. The Old Gym created a more laid-back atmosphere for those looking to play games and relax away from the loud music. The New Gym was where the actual dance was held. All four grades came together with music blasting to dance the night away.
Whether this was your first Spirit Week, your last Spirit Week, or somewhere in between, all students can agree that this is one of the best weeks we have at Spalding!
