Going into a new school year can be challenging in many ways, but it can be even more challenging when starting a new year and a new school. As a Spalding community, we are extremely welcoming regarding transfers. But, no matter what, it can be difficult. So, what do you do when you transfer to Spalding? Here are a few things that can help you:
- Listen to the morning announcements!
- There are always fun things going on at Spalding, whether a club, a sports game, a new play, or so many other things. If you want to know when those things are happening, students, as part of SPAM, talk about the upcoming events every morning in homeroom.
- Think about what you are interested in.
- Spalding has anything and everything. Even if you think it is a niche interest that you might only consider a few people interested in, chances are there’s a club at Spalding for it. And if there is a rare chance there isn’t a club, make one! Many teachers are open to hosting clubs in their classrooms, so don’t be afraid to reach out! If you want to learn about the clubs, you can visit Club Information.
- Join a Sport!
- Spalding has 30 sports competing in the MIAA and IAAM; if you are interested in a particular sport, chances are there is a team at Spalding! Even if you aren’t necessarily committed to a specific sport but still want to be a part of a team, many sports are open to teaching you the basics of the sport! - Go all out on Spirit Week!
- Spalding students go all out for Spirit Week. So whatever the theme is, try your best to go all out. On class color days, we show unity by supporting our class color (Freshmen: blue, Sophomores: purple, Juniors: green, and Seniors: yellow). Try to find your favorite outfit inspired by your class color. Try your best and have fun!
- Remember, you are not alone.
- Even if some of these things don’t interest you, there’s always more. Our school counselors do a phenomenal job of ensuring we don’t feel alone. But, if there is a time when you do, make sure to reach out to your school counselor, and I am positive that they can help you find your way at Spalding. If you need your class counselor’s email, visit this page. You are not alone. Also, many, if not all, Spalding students are open to making new friends, so just talking to the people who sit next to you, seeing who is in multiple of your classes, and smiling at people in the hallway can make a big difference.
